Description:

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) were established by the Government of Canada in 2008 to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and position Canada as a global leader in research and higher education. This prestigious scholarship recognizes exceptional academic achievement, research potential, and leadership skills in graduate studies across multiple disciplines, including health research, natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences and humanities.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Vanier CGS, applicants must:

✅ Be nominated by only one Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota.
✅ Be pursuing their first doctoral degree.
✅ Plan to begin full-time doctoral studies in the summer semester or academic year following the award announcement.
✅ For joint graduate research programs, only the PhD portion is eligible for funding.
✅ Have completed no more than 20 months of full-time study in their doctoral program as of May 1, 2025.
✅ Have completed no more than 32 months of full-time study (if directly entering from a bachelor’s degree, transferring from a master’s without completion, or enrolled in a joint graduate research program).
✅ Have achieved a first-class average in the last two years of full-time study (as determined by the applicant’s institution).
✅ Not have received a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.
