Most awards will be based in Ottawa, with the Global Health award based in Nairobi.
Key Eligibility Requirements
- Apply for only one research award
- Research must focus on developing countries listed on the OECD DAC list
- Field research limited to 3 months maximum
- Research cannot be conducted in countries with “Avoid all travel” advisories from the Government of Canada
- Meet specific criteria for the chosen research theme
- Submit required documents, including research proposal and qualifications form
- For Ottawa-based awards: Valid student or work permit until April 30, 2024
- For Nairobi-based award: Proof of Kenyan citizenship
- Applicants should be graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, or early-career professionals

IDRC Research Awards Canada Application Process
Interested candidates should submit their applications through the IDRC online portal. Required documents include a research proposal, CV, and academic transcripts.
Selection Process
A panel of experts evaluates the applications. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. results are typically announced in March.
