The Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship financed by the Australian Research Council – Discovery Projects that aim to help students pursuing a Ph.D. within the School of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, where the emphasis of their research will be on new rare-earth free solid-state magnetic materials. Scholarship applicants will concentrate on either synthesis, structural and physical property characterization, or data mining and computational modeling; with the flexibility to operate across all aspects of the project.

Eligibility Conditions for the 2023 Research Scholarships

To be eligible for the 2023 Research Scholarships, applicants are required to have met the conditions below:

  • Have an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled to study full-time in a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) within the School of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney
  • Hold an honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a master’s degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent
  • Be willing to undertake research in solid-state magnetic materials
  • Be willing to work at major neutron and X-ray scattering facilities.

Merits of Award

The Scholarship will offer a stipend allowance equivalent to $29,880 per annum (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Procedures for Application

An applicant without an unconditional offer of admission may apply and be chosen. Nevertheless, no scholarship offer will be sent until the applicant has an unconditional offer of admission.
