Eligibility Criteria for Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship 2025/2026
To qualify for the Vanier CGS, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or an international student.
- Be pursuing your first doctoral degree (including joint degrees like MD/PhD, JD/PhD, etc.)—only the PhD portion is funded.
- Not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies by May 1, 2024.
- Be nominated by one Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota.
- Plan to enroll full-time in a PhD program for the academic year 2024-25.
- Have not received previous doctoral-level funding from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.
- Have achieved a first-class average in the last two years of full-time study (as determined by your institution).
Note: Each student can only be nominated once. If multiple institutions wish to nominate you, you must choose one.
