The 2023 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Scholarship is a unique scholarship program planned to assist African students who desire to further a Master’s degree in economics, agricultural economics, public policy, or related fields. The scholarship is open to African students from sub-Saharan African countries who may have concluded their undergraduate studies and are devoted to furthering a Master’s degree in economics or related fields. The main objective of the program aims to deliver students with the essential skills and knowledge to add to the economic development of their countries and the African continent as a whole. Applicants from Anglophone sub-Saharan African countries must be admitted to the 2023/2024 Masters scholarships into any of the following AERC Collaborative Masters Programme (CMAP) in Economics universities:

  • University of Botswana
  • University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  • University of Cape Coast, Ghana
  • University of Ghana, Legon
  • University of Nairobi, Kenya
  • University of Mauritius
  • University of Namibia
  • University of Malawi
  • University of Zimbabwe
  • Makerere University

Eligibility for the 2023 AERC Masters Scholarship:

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have applied and been admitted to any one of the listed CMAP universities;
  • Have attained at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in Economics or related field from an accredited university; and
  • Female applicants from post-conflict and fragile states (especially the AERC Masters Bridge Programme alumni class of 2017 and 2018) are highly encouraged to apply.

Method of Application

Concerned applicants must submit their applications for admission directly to their separate universities (the application process can be gotten from the respective university’s website). Upon receipt of an admission letter from a particular university, applicants should upload the documents above onto the AERC Scholarship Portal
