The ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program

The ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program is an enterprise founded by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and also a PRIDA project which is a joint initiative of the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and the ITU which has the objective of enhancing the African continent to reap the benefits of digitalization by addressing various dimensions of broadband and supply in Africa and building the capacities of AU Member states in the Internet Governance space. The ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program is to enhance gender equality and equip women in the field of spectrum management. Spectrum management is the process of regulating the allocation, assignment, and use of radio frequencies for different purposes, such as broadcasting, telecommunications, and satellite communications.

The program offers training and mentorship opportunities to women working in or desiring to function in spectrum management, with the objective of building their skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in this field.

The ITU Empowering Women in Spectrum Management Program presents a wide range of activities, not exempting training workshops, webinars, mentorship programs, and networking events. The program also grants access to online resources and devices that aid or help women in spectrum management to promote their careers. The training has two sessions. The first session of the training will take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon where a total of 200 young women will be selected from French-speaking countries in Africa.
