The 2023 Malaysian Technical Cooperation Scholarships for Advancing Countries

The 2023 Malaysian Technical Cooperation Scholarships is a prestigious initiative that aims to offer scholarships for students from advancing countries to further technical qualifications at the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program. The scholarships are open to students from countries recognized as least developed, lowermiddleincome, or uppermiddleincome. The scholarships are sponsored by the Malaysian Government and its partners and will be offered in fields such as;

  3. Health Sciences,
  4. Applied Sciences,
  5. and Information Technology.

The MTCP Scholarship is supported by the Malaysian Government and is dedicated to international students from the advancing world to further their postgraduate studies in Malaysia, whilst at the same time attaining the essential knowledge and skills that could contribute to the development of their home country. The period of the award is between 24 to 36 months for Master’s Degree Programme.

The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) was founded in 1980 as Malaysia’s commitment to South-South Cooperation through the sharing of Malaysia’s development experiences and expertise with other advancing countries.

Eligibility Conditions for the 2023 Malaysian Technical Cooperation Scholarships

In order to be eligible for the 2023 Malaysian Technical Cooperation Scholarships, applicants are required to have met the conditions below:

High potential and excellent graduates who:

  • Are citizens of the MTCP recipient countries
  • Intend to pursue full-time postgraduate studies (Master’s) in Malaysia. Refer to the List of MTCP Recipient Countries in the FAQ section

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Scholarship applicants should COMPLY with the following criteria:

  • Not more than 45 years old at the time of application.
  • For Master’s Degree Programme, applicants should obtain a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent at the Undergraduate Degree level.
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency:
    i. Scanned copy of the original proof of English Language Proficiency such as IELTS (minimum total score 6) or TOEFL internet-based test (minimum total score of 60)
    ii. Has obtained a previous degree(s) with English used as the medium of instruction.
  • Has an excellent level of health certified by a doctor or physician. The cost of the medical check-up shall be fully borne by the applicant.
  • Applicant must undertake full-time study for postgraduate programmes (Master’s Degree) at the selected Malaysian Universities (Please see List of Universities).
  • Application is only available to applicants who have received a valid admission offer letter/s from at least one (1) university in Malaysia but have not yet started their postgraduate studies or those who have registered for more than one semester for a Master’s Degree.

Value of Award: This scholarship covers:
a. Tuition Fees
b. Other allowances of RM3,500.00 per month which
includes:

  1. Cost of Living Allowance
  2. Book Allowance
  3. Tools Allowance
  4. House Rental Allowance
  5. Placement Allowance
  6. Thesis Allowance
  7. Travel Allowance

Procedures for Application

a. Application form (to be filled in the online system)
b. Latest Admission Offer Letter from Malaysian Universities for academic intake 2023 (Please see List of Universities)
c. Letter of Recommendation from two (2) referees
d. Statement of Intent
e. A certified copy of Academic Transcript;
i. Record of all the courses taken throughout the degree programme should be reflected in the academic transcripts;
ii. Applicants must submit transcripts of their undergraduate studies; and
iii. Applicants must submit an official document issued by the applicant’s alma mater describing the university’s grade system. If an applicant’s transcript does not include information on CGPA, marks, or score percentile, the documents must be certified

f. Curriculum Vitae
g. A certified copy of English Language Proficiency test result (TOEFL/ IELTS/ PTE/ CAE/ CPE/ MUET/ equivalent qualification) or an official letter from the previous institution declaring English as the medium of instruction used for the obtained degree(s)
h. A certified copy of passport as proof of nationality (minimum of 18 months validity)
i. Medical examination report; and
j. COVID-19 proof of vaccination.
