The United.b Circular Electronics Challenge is an initiative aimed at promoting innovation and sustainability in the electronics industry. It is a global competition open to startups and entrepreneurs who are developing innovative solutions that can help address the e-waste problem.

The challenge is organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and other partners, including the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The competition seeks to identify and support startups and entrepreneurs who are developing innovative business models and technologies that can promote the circular economy in the electronics industry. The focus areas of the challenge include:

Final event

The grand final will take place at the annual AU-EU Innovation Event in Cape Town (South Africa), bringing together key actors from the European and African innovation ecosystem. It is a unique opportunity to earn global exposure and seize amazing networking opportunities.

During the event, the 3 finalists will pitch their solution in front of a jury of innovation experts and top management from United.b.

Timeline

  • Application: March 6, 2023 – Apr 30, 2023, Answer a few questions & submit your 5–10 slides ppt deck to present your solution.
  • Shortlisting: May 1, 2023 – May 14 2023 Projects will be reviewed and selected by United.b and ENRICH in Africa partners.
  • Final EventJune, 15 2023: The 3 finalists will be invited to pitch at the AU-EU innovation festival in Cape Town.
