James Learmonth was an influential educational practitioner in the UK who trusted strongly that education was the key to significant inclusion, social stability, and international cooperation. James Learmonth also trusted that teachers and educational leaders can only be influential if they continue learning. After James died of cancer in 2003, his wife, family, and countless colleagues and friends arranged to launch the James Learmonth Scholarship Programme in his memory. The objective of this programme is to support teachers and educational leaders in Malawi to further studies in education.
Chosen scholars must be devoted to returning to Malawi upon completion of their studies to contribute to reforming the education sector. Shortlisted applicants will be needed to attend an interview and submit their detailed curriculum vitae with their application.

Eligibility Conditions for the 2023 Canon Collins Trust/James Learmonth Malawi for Masters in Education
To be eligible for the 2023 Canon Collins Trust/James Learmonth Malawi for Masters in Education, applicants are required to have met the conditions below:
- Studying or applying to study any MA Education course at Chancellor College
- A national of and resident of Malawi
- Obtained a good undergraduate degree
