2023 ACS-COSECSA Women Surgical Residents Scholarship for African Women Surgical Trainees
African women are called forth to lay applications for the 2023 ACS-COSECSA Women Surgical Residents Scholarship organized by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) for African women surgical trainees who wish to further their education in Surgery and take surgery as a profession.
According to recent statistics, there are hardly 0.5 surgeons for every 100,000 individuals. Despite making up more than half of the population, women only make approximately 7% of the surgical workforce. 2023 ACS-COSECSA Women Surgical Residents Scholarship for African Women Surgical Trainees.
To help address this problem, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) have established a scholarship program to support women in surgical residency, help them complete their training, and inspire other women in medicine to consider surgery as a profession.

Eligibility for the 2023 ACS-COSECSA Women Surgical Residents Scholarship:
- Applicants must be junior female surgical trainees enrolling in the COSECSA surgical fellowship program.
- Applicants must be Sub-Saharan Africans

Type: Training & Fellowship
Number of Awards: The number of awards will depend on quality of applications and available funds
Value of Award:
- The usage of this award is to register into the fellowship program.
- Each scholarship is worth $500.
Method of Application: Applicants should contain a personal statement specifying future goals, a current curriculum vitae, and a letter of support from their surgical training program director.
